Land Camp

When asked how academics can engage with ITK in a good way, Elders in a 2025 Elder’s Circle said that academics need to come and meet the Elders on the territory, and get to know the Lands they want to research. This was the motivation for the first iteration of the Land camp.
Thanks to funding from Braiding Knowledges Canada and support from the University of Calgary and Kluane Lake Research Station, 12 Sho Than K’e Ho Chi Dok participants from 6 different provinces and territories gathered from July 9-14th, 2026 at KLRS. Guided and mentored by Elder Copper Joe Jack, participants were deeply immersed in Copper’s teachings, and interspecies connections that expanded their senses of self and connections to the Land.
